# Connect your agent

> Add the RootSmith MCP server to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or another MCP client so your agent can do anything you can do in RootSmith.

Source: https://docs.rootsmith.io/docs/agents/connect.md

RootSmith has a remote MCP server. A connected agent can read and change
everything you can in the dashboard, with your role in your team.

## Get your server URL

Open the RootSmith **Overview** page. The **Connect your agent** card shows
your server URL and the setup for each client. The URL ends in `/mcp`.

## Add the server

```bash tab="Claude Code"
claude mcp add --transport http rootsmith https://<your RootSmith API>/mcp
```

```bash tab="Codex"
codex mcp add rootsmith --url https://<your RootSmith API>/mcp
codex mcp login rootsmith
```

```json tab="Cursor"
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "rootsmith": { "url": "https://<your RootSmith API>/mcp" }
  }
}
```

```text tab="Other apps"
https://<your RootSmith API>/mcp
```

- **Claude Code**: run `/mcp` to sign in and pick your team.
- **Codex**: the second command opens the sign-in page.
- **Cursor**: add the JSON to `~/.cursor/mcp.json`. Cursor asks you to sign in
  when it connects.
- **Other apps**: add the URL as a remote MCP server or custom connector, such
  as in the Claude app or VS Code.

## Sign-in and access

- You sign in with your RootSmith account in a browser. The agent never sees
  your password.
- Each connection is for one team. To use another team, add another
  connection.
- The agent has your role's access. Owners and admins get 56 tools; members
  get 45. See [MCP tools](https://docs.rootsmith.io/docs/agents/tools.md).
- Agent access needs an active plan.
- Each client can make 120 requests a minute.

## What stays in the dashboard

Some actions need a person in a browser:

- Copying the connection secret and rotating it.
- Buying or changing a plan.
- Connecting Google Search Console. An agent can disconnect it.
- Managing connected agents.

## Manage connected agents

On the **Connect your agent** card, select **Manage agents** to see your
connected agents and disconnect one. A disconnected agent stops working
within a few minutes, when its current access expires.

## Give your agent these docs

Point your agent at `/llms.txt` on this site, or add `.md` to any page URL.
To set up a website, use the prompt in
[Install with an agent](https://docs.rootsmith.io/docs/agents/install.md).
