Quickstart
Add your website, review your brand profile, connect publishing, and publish your first page from the RootSmith dashboard.
This guide uses the dashboard. To let a coding agent do the setup, see Install with an agent.
1. Add your website
Create a RootSmith account and enter your website. RootSmith reads your homepage and up to five business pages, drafts your brand profile, and suggests competitors. This takes a few minutes, and you can answer three short questions while it works.
2. Review your brand profile
Open Sites, select your site, and open Brand. Check each detail in What we learned, fix anything that's wrong, and select Accept all profile details when it looks right. Your corrections are kept when RootSmith reads your site again.
Fill in What you don't offer yourself. RootSmith uses it to avoid claiming features or plans you don't have.
Under Competitors, accept the suggestions that fit and add any that are missing.
3. Check your page types
Open Page types. Each page type has a fixed URL prefix and its own writing guidance. Every site starts with:
| Page type | URL prefix |
|---|---|
| Blog article | /blog |
| Comparison page | /compare |
| Alternatives page | /alternatives |
Add a custom page type when you need another kind of page. A page keeps its path after it's published, even if you change its page type later.
4. Connect your website
Open Publishing and pick how approved pages reach your site. For a Next.js site, use the SDK. See Choose how to publish for every option.
5. Track the questions your buyers ask
Open Performance, then Questions. Add questions your buyers ask AI assistants, or track the ones RootSmith suggests from your brand profile. RootSmith checks how AI engines answer them every week and shows who gets named in AI visibility.
6. Plan, write, and publish
Open Content. RootSmith suggests ideas from your brand profile and from gaps in AI answers. Review them one at a time: approve, change, or remove each one. Select Write now on an approved idea to get a draft with sources and claim checks.
Edit the draft, send it to review, approve it, then publish it now or schedule it. Your site shows the page at its saved path.
7. Automate and measure
- Automations write approved ideas or refresh live pages daily, weekly, or monthly. With automatic approval in Publishing, drafts that pass their checks publish without a person.
- Performance shows AI citations and Google clicks for each published page before publication and at 14, 30, 60, and 90 days. Connect Google Search Console in Integrations to see search data.
